“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21}.
First we learn that we need forgiveness for the definate acts of sins which we have committed. Then we learn not only that we have sinned again and again, but that we have also an evil nature; yet that God have made provision for this by offering Jesus Christ for our sins. By Christ all who believe are justified from all things through his Atonement.
Atonement means “covering” and being Covere by Christ. We are viewed by God as righteous. It is not merely that his devotedness, his law-keeping, his obedience,is put down to our account, but that God sees us in him in all his perfectness.
